A Kitchen Designed Around the Island

At the heart of the kitchen is a large bespoke island, designed to become the natural gathering point within the room.

The island provides generous preparation space while comfortably seating four, making it equally useful for family breakfasts, informal meals, homework or simply sitting together while dinner is prepared.

A built-in hob was incorporated into the island, accompanied by a discreet downdraft extractor. By keeping the extraction system largely out of sight when not in use, we were able to maintain the clean, uncluttered appearance of the island.

This was an important part of the design. The island needed to be highly functional without losing the relaxed, furniture-led quality of the room.

Classic Hand-Painted Shaker Cabinetry

For the cabinetry, Shane and Kate selected our classic hand-painted Shaker design.

Shaker furniture has a natural simplicity that works particularly well in a family kitchen. Its clean proportions and understated detailing create a timeless appearance, while the handmade construction provides the quality and individuality expected from bespoke furniture.

The cabinetry was designed specifically around the room and the clients' requirements, ensuring that storage and functionality were carefully considered alongside the overall aesthetic.

The result is a kitchen that feels warm and inviting rather than overly formal – a space designed to be used and enjoyed every day.

A Bespoke Utility Room

Alongside the main kitchen, we designed and fitted a bespoke utility room, carrying the same design language through into this important working area of the home.

Using complementary cabinetry and materials creates a seamless visual connection between the two spaces while allowing the utility room to perform its own practical role.

For busy family homes, a well-designed utility room can make a significant difference to how the rest of the house functions. Storage, preparation areas and practical tasks can be accommodated away from the main kitchen, helping to keep the primary living space calm and organised.

Durable Quartz Worktops

Both the kitchen and utility room were finished with 30mm quartz worktops.

The substantial worktops provide a durable and practical surface capable of withstanding the demands of a busy family kitchen, while their refined appearance complements the traditional Shaker cabinetry.

The combination of painted furniture and quartz creates a balanced material palette – classic in character, but robust enough for everyday family life.
